The Scottish Government has opened a consultation to create a shared definition of "care experience" as part of its commitment to "Keeping the Promise" by 2030. This initiative aims to establish a consistent understanding of the term across public services, ensuring that care-experienced individuals receive the recognition and support they need.

At present, the absence of a standard definition has led to varied interpretations, potentially affecting the consistency of support across services. The consultation invites feedback from individuals, organisations, and stakeholders to shape a definition that reflects the lived experiences of those with care backgrounds and informs future policy-making.
To encourage participation, a programme of engagement is being developed, offering opportunities to join the discussion and share views. Initial online events have been scheduled, with further engagement opportunities to be announced:
Online Event – Tuesday, 12 November, 2pm – 4pm: Register here
Online Event – Wednesday, 13 November, 10am – 12pm: Register here
Online Event – Thursday, 14 November, 5pm – 7pm: Register here
The consultation will remain open until 8 January 2025. Everyone is encouraged to take part and share their views to help develop a meaningful definition.
