Outline of workshop:

The overall aim of this workshop is to gain a greater understanding of the assessment process of student social workers on placement. Importantly the workshop will contextualise the assessment process within the context of University’s frameworks to ensure a shared understanding that will benefit practice educators, tutors and students.

The workshop will focus on 5 key areas:

1) Approaches to assessment?
2) What is evidence?
3) University processes & requirements
4) Values & Anti-Oppressive Practice evidence
5) The importance of service user and carer input

Deirdre Fitzpatrick is Head of Social Work in Scotland at the Open University. She has over 20 years’ experience as an independent practice educator and has worked with a wide range of social work programmes. Deidre’s key priorities are work based learning and the importance of career pathways for social care workers as well as developing a more robust infrastructure for practice learning in Scotland. She is a member of the Social Work Education Partnership’s Practice Learning Sub Group that is seeking to address the challenges facing practice learning across Scotland.
